Democrats are optimistic about their chances to unseat incumbent Representative Scott Perry this election cycle.

In the battleground state of Pennsylvania, its 10th Congressional District has become a pivotal swing district in the upcoming November election.

Incumbent Representative Scott Perry is facing off against Democratic challenger and former news anchor at WGAL, Janelle Stelson. She was a registered Republican until last year, and has decided to challenge Perry after the news of Roe v. Wade being overturned by the Supreme Court.

Representative Perry has held the seat since 2019 and is the former chair of the House Freedom Caucus.

Recent analysis has indicated blue shifts in the suburbs surrounding Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. These shifts could explain why democratic candidates have been seeing slightly more success across the state in recent races. Democrats are optimistic that this suburban shift could give Stelson an edge in her effort to unseat Perry.

A televised debate on ABC27 gave the candidates the chance to speak on abortion, which is an important issue to voters heading into November.

During the debate, Stelson accused Perry of supporting a national abortion ban. Perry responded by saying he opposes taxpayer funded abortion, but supports exceptions in the case of rape, incest, and the life of the mother.

Stelson and Democrats have also questioned Perry concerning his alleged involvement in Trump’s effort to overturn the 2020 election. The Department of Justice has investigated Perry as a subject of interest.

Democrats are hopeful that her notability in Pennsylvania’s 10th Congressional District will help her win the race against Perry. Republicans are making an effort to keep Perry in the seat, with Speaker Mike Johnson campaigning for him in Mechanicsburg last week.
