Most ad spending for the 2024 presidential election has been targeted toward swing states, with significant funding spent in Pennsylvania.

Currently over $72.1 million has been spent on campaign ads for the 2024 presidential election. More than $21.2 million of this has been spent in Pennsylvania, which is a key battleground state.

President Biden has made seven trips to Pennsylvania so far this year, and is outspending former President Donald Trump by 4 to 1 across the state. President Biden won the state of Pennsylvania by just one percentage point in 2020.

The Biden campaign is targeting dollars towards Black voters and religious groups in Pennsylvania and other battleground states. While the Trump campaign has spent significantly less on campaign advertisements in Pennsylvania, it focuses on how Biden’s policies have failed the Black community. The Trump campaign’s adviser Danielle Alvarez issued a statement ahead of Biden’s recent visit to Philadelphia saying “[President Biden’s] disastrous policies have done nothing for our community besides driving up the cost of gas, groceries, and rent while making it nearly impossible to buy a home, start a new business or save money for the future.”

Other states targeted by high dollar campaign ads are Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, and Wisconsin. In every state, President Biden’s campaign is outspending former President Trump’s. Biden’s campaign has spent $34.2 million so far, while MAGA Inc., an outside group supporting Trump’s campaign, has spent $12 million. Trump’s campaign has spent just over $70,500 on campaign ads and four out of every five dollars MAGA Inc. spends has gone to campaigning in Pennsylvania.

With such significant funding directed towards Pennsylvania, it is clear that both campaigns view the state as a battleground in the 2024 presidential race.
