Wrestling icon and Hollywood star Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson commended Trump in the face of threats to his life, but stopped short of endorsing the former President.

Dwayne Johnson, better known as The Rock, commented on Donald Trump’s defiance after a gunman shot him in the ear on July 13th, narrowly missing his head. Johnson, speaking as a Keynote presenter at The Value Conference in Florida earlier in September, commended the former President’s response to the threats on his life.

“We wanted to see that,” said the Hall of Fame WWE wrestler-turned Hollywood actor. “Whether you love Donald, don’t love Donald, it doesn’t matter.” While Johnson has largely kept specific political leanings out of the public eye, he has praised Trump’s character on other occasions. The Rock further applauded Trump at the same conference while calling for more unity and criticizing the current state of political discourse that led to the attempted assassination attempt in Butler, PA.

“They tried to assassinate him,” Johnson continued. “There’s no room for that. I still believe in my core that is not who we are as a country. So, him standing up at that moment, we wanted to see that.” Johnson joined a growing number of celebrities to offer words of support, including music icon Elton John.

It’s also not the first time that Johnson has weighed in on politics. Several years ago, he briefly floated the idea of running for office and said he’s been asked to do it. Earlier this year, he expressed regret for having publicly endorsed Joe Biden in 2020, and stated he would not do so again.
