Today marks National Voter Registration Day, an initiative aimed at increasing voter participation across the country.
Voters in Pennsylvania still have over a month to register to vote since October 21, 2024, is the deadline to register. Today’s initiatives are to bring awareness to participating in this year’s election. Colleges across the country and the Commonwealth are sponsoring events to check your registration status and help register first time voters.
To vote in Pennsylvania, you must first register to vote at least 15 days before the election. You can register to vote online, by mail, or at a number of government agencies, including Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Photo License and Driver’s License Centers.
To register to vote in Pennsylvania, you must:
- Be a citizen of the United States for at least one month before the next primary, special, municipal, or general election.
- Be a resident of Pennsylvania and the election district in which you want to register and vote for at least 30 days before the next primary, special, municipal, or general election.
- Be at least 18 years of age on or before the day of the next primary, special, municipal, or general election.

Also being celebrated today is Constitution Day, which recognizes the adoption of the U.S. Constitution. On this day in 1787, the 39 delegates to the Constitutional Convention signed the Constitution in the Assembly Room of the Pennsylvania State House, now known as Independence Hall.
