All but two counties in the state moved towards Trump and Republicans compared to the 2020 results.

Unlike 2020, in which the presidential election wasn’t decided for several days, Americans woke up the day after this election with a winner.

Former President Donald J. Trump cleared the 270 electoral vote hurdle after late night tallies in a number of battleground states were reported.

Among those states Is Pennsylvania, which the Associated Press called for Trump around 2:30 AM. According to the AP, nearly every single county in Pennsylvania saw a shift towards Trump compared to the 2020 results. This includes Democrat strongholds such as Philadelphia and Allegheny Counties which remained firmly in the Democrat column but lost a few points to Trump.

Counties that were crucial to Biden’s 2020 win failed to back Vice President Kamala Harris. Bucks and Northampton Counties, north of Philadelphia both narrowly supported Biden four years ago. With exit polling indicating half of Pennsylvania voters saying their “financial situation was worse” than four years ago, Bucks and Northampton are among four Keystone counties to flip their support in 2020 from Biden to Trump in 2024.

Bucks County had one of the larger changes, with a 5 point move toward Trump, resulting in the former President squeaking by Harris by roughly 500 votes out of nearly 400,000 votes cast.

In Northampton, despite having far fewer voters than Bucks County, Trump bested Harris by nearly 4,000 votes, equaling a 2.2% victory.

In Western Pennsylvania, Harris didn’t fare much better. While Allegheny County, home to Pittsburgh, went for Harris, the Vice President performed 1% worse than Biden did last election. As of 11PM on election night, Harris had a 140,000 vote lead over Trump in Allegheny County, compared to Biden’s 148,000 vote margin in 2020.

Harris’ underperformance of Biden’s 2020 campaign was the subject of astonishment during CNN’s election night coverage. The network’s anchors showed Harris failed to exceed Biden by more than 3% in any single county across the country. In Pennsylvania, only two counties—Cumberland and Perry—moved toward Democrats, both by 1 point. Trump won both counties.
