The Pennsylvania congressman was married on Saturday.

This past Saturday, Pennsylvania Representative Rob Bresnahan married Chelsea Strub.

Prior to the wedding, the couple was targeted with a wedding harassment campaign. The harassment included a potential death threat and a political event focused on the wedding and Bresnahan’s status as a congressman.

A bridal shower webpage run by family was posted online as a surprise for Strub but was briefly left public. The page received dozens of hateful comments before being taken down.

“Be seeing you soon!” a commenter wrote and signed “Luigi”. The couple viewed this comment as a death threat and a reference to Luigi Magione, the man accused of shooting and killing the CEO of UnitedHealthcare this year.

Other comments told the couple to “rot in hell” and that they “won’t be saved when it all burns.”

A wedding-themed town hall event was planned in criticism of Bresnahan’s support of Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill.

A Facebook page was created for the event, with one commenter writing, “Let’s protest the nuptials.”

The town hall was held on August 5th in Scranton, Pennsylvania. It was named “Broken Vows: Families vs. the Big Ugly Bill,” and was organized by Pennsylvanians Together. It was held at the Green Ridge Club.

The event opened with a fake wedding ceremony. Marc Stier, executive director for the Pennsylvania Public Policy Center, said, “Dearly beloved, we are here today not to celebrate but to excoriate the unholy union between Congressman Bresnahan and the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.”

In a recent interview, Strub said, “It is not what you expect to deal with when planning a wedding. Instead of choosing cake flavors, we are deciding how many members of a security team we need and what guests have to go through to make sure they are safe. There is this cloud over the wedding because of unchecked violence from extremists.”

“Attack Rob all you want. But can we keep my family out of it? Violence to this extreme on something as innocent as a marriage website should be called out. Would Democratic leaders want this for their daughter’s wedding website?” she continued

Strub said the message behind the event crossed a line. “I’ve even had Democrats I know text me the message and say, ‘Oh my God, I cannot believe they’re doing this. I might disagree with Rob, but this is out of line.”

Prior to the wedding, Strub said in her interview that she was still looking forward to her “dream wedding” despite the harassment the couple faced.
