Garrity won against Democratic challenger Erin McClelland on Wednesday morning.
At 3:17am on Wednesday morning, the Associated Press called the Pennsylvania State Treasurer race.
Stacy Garrity, the incumbent, won a second term against Democratic challenger Erin McClelland. Election returns show Garrity taking 51.96% of the vote share, with McClelland earning 45.61%.
In a statement, Garrity said, “As we look to the future, I am excited to continue working for you. Together, we will build on our successes and tackle the challenges ahead. Thank you, Pennsylvania, for your trust and support. I am honored to serve as your State Treasurer for another term, and I am ready to continue the work of making our Commonwealth a place of opportunity and prosperity for all.”
Garrity was first elected to the office in 2020 after succeeding against incumbent Joe Torsella. In her first term, she returned unclaimed property to Pennsylvanians and eliminated minimum deposit requirements for state-managed savings plans. She divested the state’s investments from Russian, Belarusian, and Chinese securities.
She also increased the state’s investments in bonds backed by the Israeli government following the October 7th attack by Hamas.
For her second term, Garrity says she will look ahead to focus on increasing transparency and reducing wasteful government spending. During the campaign, Garrity outraised her opponent with a total of $1.7 million. McClelland raised $116,000 and loaned herself $100,000 last year.
Garrity, a native of Bradford County, served in the United States Army Reserves as a Colonel and is the former Vice President of Global Tungsten and Powders Corp.
She earned over 80% of the vote in Bedford, Fulton, Juniata, and Potter Counties. In Allegheny County, Garrity had 40.86% of the vote. In Montgomery, Chester, and Delaware counties, she had 46.52%, 41.30%, and 41.01% of the vote
Garrity performed better by approximately two points in Allegheny County this election cycle. She also performed better in Delaware County by about three points.
In a successful election for Republicans, Donald Trump won the battleground state of Pennsylvania. He fell short in the same counties as Garrity.
Democratic Senator Bob Casey previously served as state treasurer before running for a seat in the United States Senate.
