The Teamsters are making a historic shift towards supporting Republican candidates.
Teamsters General President Sean O’Brien is leading the labor union in a historic shift towards supporting battleground Republican candidates in the upcoming midterms.
For the second year in a row, the union’s PAC has been diversified through donations to Republicans after nearly two decades of supporting Democrats.
The labor union’s D.R.I.V.E political action committee – Democrat, Republican, Independent Voter Education – gave $5,000 to the National Republican Congressional Committee in the second quarter of 2025.
The Teamsters also gave $62,000 to GOP congressional candidates, some of which are located in battleground districts.
In Pennsylvania, Representatives Rob Bresnahan, Mike Kelly, and Brian Fitzpatrick were recipients of such contributions.
Senator Dave McCormick also received funds from the labor union’s PAC.
Bresnahan, who received a $5,000 contribution from the Teamsters, said, “Labor unions are finally recognizing that their memberships are made up of workers from across the political spectrum.”
In June, the union’s political arm donated $50,000 to the Republican Attorneys General Association in another demonstration of its shift towards supporting Republican candidates.
Kara Deniz, a Teamsters spokesperson, said in a recent interview, “Our members are working people whose interests cut across party lines, and there’s no value in living in a bubble… where you only talk to certain people to the exclusion of others.”
The donations to the GOP mark a historic shift in where the support of the labor union lies. While labor unions still donate primarily to Democrats, their willingness to increasingly support Republican candidates is a warning to Democrats that their labor support is diminishing.
Last year, $25,000 was donated by the Teamsters to the NRCC. They also gave $45,000 to the RNC to diversify their support as their members shift more to the right.
NRCC spokesperson Mike Marianella said, “Hard-working men and women across the country are rallying behind Republicans up and down the ballot because we fight for their jobs, their families, and their future. Democrats have abandoned them for their deeply out of touch, radical policies. We’re bringing these voters home, and they will be key in growing our House majority.”
