Gov. Shapiro, who was among a shortlist of potential Biden replacements, announced his support for Harris.

Just hours after President Biden announced on X that he was giving up his run for reelection, Vice President Kamala Harris has been consolidating support for her to take Biden’s spot.

That support includes many top-tier Democrats in Pennsylvania. Both Sens. Bob Casey, himself in a tough reelection race against Republican Dave McCormick, and John Fetterman announced they are supporting Harris for President.

Gov. Josh Shapiro, considered a potential replacement for Biden, has thrown his support behind Harris and is rumored to be a top choice for Harris’ Vice President. Democratic Pennsylvania House Speaker Joanna McClinton endorsed Shapiro for VP, saying it’s “the best thing [Harris] can do” to help win battleground states like Pennsylvania.

While the majority of state democratic party chairs endorsed Harris, PA Democratic Party Chair Sharif Street announced the state committee will convene soon to formally endorse the Vice President’s run for President. The state’s delegation to the Democratic National Convention, set to begin August 19, also announced their support for Harris.

The entire Pennsylvania congressional delegation endorsed Harris: Reps. Brendan Boyle, Madeline Dean, Mary Gay Scanlon, Susan Wild, and Summer Lee are among those who are backing Harris. Lee said several weeks ago that she would support Harris as the presidential candidate. Reps Matt Cartwright, Dwight Evans, Chris DeLuzio, and Chrissy Houlahan also backed the Vice President according to The New York Times.
